A New Furnace Means Carbon Tax Savings for Alberta Families

Call it a money grab, or a green initiative, the new carbon tax has been in place for a year now and is a current reality for Albertan households. If you’re like a lot of Albertans you’ve probably been looking at ways you can reduce your energy usage, and honestly, a lot of them are pretty pricey.

Many of us aren’t about to go out and buy a hybrid vehicle, but if you’re running an old furnace you’re throwing money out the window (where it will freeze immediately in the sub-zero temperatures). There are a number of actions you can take to reduce your energy usage, and we can help you with a lot of them.

If you’ve been thinking about replacing your furnace (or looking at alternative heating methods), here are some suggestions the heating experts at Century Plumbing and Heating have for families in Edmonton and area:

  1. The fastest, easiest solution: get a new, high efficiency furnace. A high efficiency furnace could save you about $500 a year in natural gas costs (and more in carbon tax), so it’s a relatively small investment with long term pay-off. Century Plumbing and Heating is an authorized Trane dealer and is offering a $1000 trade-in allowance on qualifying equipment, or 24 month financing on all new Trane furnace installs. Even better, we can have your new furnace installed in a single day.
  2. Install a tankless hot water heater. These have been standard in many European countries for years because of their space and energy saving properties. Instead of storing large amounts of water in a large tank, these heaters heat the water instantly as it flows through. That means energy (and cost) savings, as well as the benefit of never running out of hot water. To make the deal even sweeter, the Alberta Government is offering up to $1000 in rebates for qualifying heaters.
  3. Installing a smart thermostat. Programmable thermostats aren’t exactly a new thing, but now you can go one step further and install a smart thermostat that actually learns your habits and turns your heat and lights off and on based on your habits. This helps save energy as you’re not using what you really don’t need when you are sleeping or away from your home.
  4. Doing major renos or building a new home? Consider installing infloor hydronic heating. Century Plumbing and Heating are infloor heating experts and would be happy to guide you through the energy saving advantages of infloor heating. This can also be a healthier alternative to forced air systems for people with dust allergies or pets.

There are quite a few things you can do to improve your home’s energy efficiency, and Century Plumbing and Heating would like to help you find them. If you’ve been considering making a change, call us for a free quote.
